About For Every Star, A Tree

For Every Star, A Tree (also known as forEST) is a grassroots movement inviting you to reconnect with nature by stewarding the Earth.

Our mission is to cultivate desertified land into a thriving, sustainable food forest. We do this by hosting community gatherings and hands-on workshops in the heart of the Los Angeles desert.

By restoring desertified Earth and increasing biodiversity, we aim to improve food access alongside our community's climate resilience.

Our Mission & Vision

We believe in a world where providing opportunities for our community to reconnect with nature can lead to a healthier future.

That's why we empower our volunteers (whom we call Earthworkers), our donors, our Starry Night Skoolie guests, and our online supporters through in-person events to touch the soil, water plants, and enjoy the stars.

Our History

For Every Star, A Tree began as an artistic inquiry:

Can a tree planted in the desert survive?

The journey started in 2020, when our founder enrolled in a Cornell University Small Farms extension class and gave a presentation called "Our Family's Food Forest" (YouTube).

After an exhaustive search for affordable land (including being ghosted for being Black by a Confederate seller), forEST finally found a home in the Antelope Valley, where our founder & her family planted the first tree.

Our Team

As a 100% volunteer-led movement, we share leadership and stewardship decisions. Everyone and anyone that is interested in cultivating a healthier planet is welcome to join us as an Earthworker.

A Note About The Land

My name is Billimarie. I founded For Every Star, A Tree not as a project, but as a practice. I wanted to build the habit of caring for the Earth with my daughter, who was only 1 years old when we first came across the land.

Our Earthcare has evolved from listening to the land...to learning what it means to co-create a healthier environment with other people over time.

This work grew from the time we spent together: planting, watering, and trying to build a life. In fact, the Starry Night Skoolie was our home before it became an overnight stay for guests.

What began as a personal commitment for my family became a universal goal in alignment with the greater good: healing desertified earth into an ecosystem that benefits creatures both large and small. forEST's vision is now something we can all share, carry forward, and strive toward as we work together with our hands, hearts, and attention.

My role is to continue as one of many stewards for this vision. For Every Star, A Tree belongs to the people and the land that help heal it...and more importantly, to the generations who will inherit what we care for today.
